At the outset
... I had been to the cities whose names are displayed in strong text. On embarking on this exercise, I realised that I had visited only 15 of all 66 official UK cities, or 23%. I have not been to Scotland or Northern Ireland at all. I haven't visited a city north of Birmingham. My goal is to visit all cities in the UK, for absolutely no reason whatsoever - it just appeals to me.
When compiling my list, there were some places that I had a vague recollection of travelling to as a child. These have not been marked as visited, as memory can be deceptive. Any place which I feel I have merely passed through (e.g. changed trains) has not been marked seen.
