Linux stuff
I've been using Linux for about 3 years now. After using RedHat for a while (from versions 5.2 to 7.3) I finally settled with Debian and eradicated all other OS installations from my home machines. I use Windows 2000, Solaris and VM/ESA at work and while they have their strengths, I prefer Linux.
I'm subscribed to the Hampshire Linux User Group mailing list and have even attended one meeting (I hope to improve on this miserable tally soon!). If you are Linux user residing somewhere vaguely near Hampshire, UK, you will be very welcome on the mailing list. Well actually some of the subscribers don't even live in Europe, let alone Hampshire and others don't seem to use Linux very often either ;-) It's sort of evolved into a mailing list discussing everything and anything, loosely themed on Linux. Of course there are other UK LUGs available, possibly based closer to you.
Not much here at the moment - just:
- A Quick Debian Install Guide for people who know a thing or two about Linux and PCs and are in a hurry
- A guide to getting Debian 3.0 running on an MSI KT3 Ultra 2
- Guide to using rootstrap to create Debian root images from a local APT cache
- A shell script I've written to review images from a digital camera and rotate if necessary: reviewimg
- A quick shell script I knocked up to draw a map of the UK,
where cities I have visited are shown in red and unvisited ones in
green. It's very basic and takes no options, so you will need to
customise it according to your requirements. The co-ordinates in
the files were obtained by looking up the latitude and longitude of
central locations in each city. I release the shell script into the
public domain, for what it's worth. Requires Generic Mapping Tools and
ImageMagick.
- ukmap.sh: The shell script.
- unvisited.xy: Sample file containing cities to be marked in red.
